In the cloning experiment he faked, Hwang Woo-Suk actually showed for possibly the first time that human eggs can begin early development into an embryo -- a method that could lead to "ethical" stem cells. He was too busy lying, but other researchers noticed it and wrote about the discovery in a scientific journal.
